OTD 40 yrs ago: This 1st for Britain; Red-necked Stint at Blacktoft. What started out as either un-ID’ed, and/or mis-ID’ed was eventually resolved, and seems so easy in hindsight. I remember RGM’s comment: “I went expecting a funny-looking Little Stint and saw a funny looking Robin.” #UKRareBirds
A rare visit to the Isle of May mid-week, somewhere that was very much home for a few years (a long time ago). Looking very brown in this hot dry summer. Late in the season so large auks gone, a few Puffin lingering. Struck by large gull decline. Didn’t see a single rabbit! #birdingFife

Basically a fluffy stomach being transported around on very long legs (with added Star Wars AT-ST Walker vibes?) #birdingFife

The influx of Quail has continued strongly over the last month. The latest weekly reporting rate of 2% is the highest recorded since BirdTrack began in 2004! #ukbirding

Strange day. Just leaving for the cinema when a WhatsApp messaged photo of a ‘Lesser Grey Shrike’ near Crail arrives. Looked weird and I queried Long-tailed. Three hours later (post movie) I’m watching a Long-tailed Shrike 2 miles from home 🥳

Increase in Manx Shearwater past Fife Ness this evening in the strong SE winds, with several flocks of 20-30. Presumably birds breeding on the West coast of Scotland (Rhum?) heading back following foraging trips into the North Sea #birdingFife
