The 4,000 kg object has been drifting in a chaotic orbit since its launch in January 2025.Impact Details & LocationDate & Time: August 5, 2026, in the early morning hours (around 2:34 a.m. ET).Location: Near the Einstein Crater on the moon’s sunlit western limb.Expected Result: A fresh impact crater roughly 89 feet (27 meters) wide and 16 feet (5 meters) deep.Debris Plume: The crash is expected to excavate over a million kilograms of lunar dust and regolith.Visibility & ScienceFlash: The direct impact flash will likely be too brief and faint to spot against the sunlit lunar surface.Dust Cloud: Advanced amateur and professional astronomers in parts of North and South America may see the resulting debris plume silhouetted against space.
