I was supremely honored by @badking.bsky.social 's willingness to make an alternate cover for Chapter 1 of my comic Cut Flowers. I left everything up to him and, to my delight, he chose to do a romantic portrait of Hector ❤️

"Hector's Kiss" - a fun variant cover I made for Cut Flowers #1 - really dug @winonanelson.com Winona Nelson's comic when I read it at Illuxcon and jumped at the chance to make something. Had a blast cutting out all those flowers :)

I wrote about my brother Simon in my article for Muddy Colors today. Years ago I wanted to paint an Ojibwe trickster/shapeshifter/folk hero named Nanaboozhoo. My brother was the most Nanaboozhoo-like person I have ever known, and I didn't have to ask him to pose. I couldn't get him to *stop.* 😂

I'm traveling home from a Magic: the Gathering event today, and my experience here was a little bittersweet. It was the first one I've done in a few months. The first since the sudden illness and pass...

Anyone around Dallas in need of signatures on some Magic cards? I'll be there next weekend, Feb 7-8, with my husband, fellow Magic artist Anthony Palumbo, pens and paints at the ready!

My big brother Simon Nelson passed away a couple of weeks ago. His memorial will be held at the Duluth Public Library Green Room on January 21, 2026, 2-5pm. I would not be who I am without him, and I miss him beyond words.

Here's an Azusa artist proof painting I particularly liked! For any of you in the Minneapolis/St Paul area, I'm doing a one-day signing event at Fox Den Board Game Cafe this Saturday! Come get some things signed, maybe sign up for a commission slot (to be mailed after)!

A grahpic with a colorful border and a photo of artist Winona Nelson. The text reads: Artist Announcement, Winona Nelson.
Winona Nelson is queer and Two-Spirit artist, and is a member of the Leech Lake Band of Minnesota Ojibwe.
Since she was a child, she felt an acute absence of pop culture depictions of people who look, dress, or act like her, so Winona has always been motivated to create empowering representations of women and people from minority backgrounds - especially Indigenous and LGBTQ2SIA+ characters.
There are three Magic the Gathering cards depicted below, including Alesha Who Smiles At Death, Tymna the Weaver, and Azusa Lost But Seeking. Shoebox, St Paul Minnesota. March 13-15. shoebox.gg
