I'm elbow-deep in Miles From Morning again as of today and my plan for the week is to do a read through before all the pre-publication stuff starts. I hope everyone else has a good week, whatever you're getting up to 💜 🏷️ #QueerWriters (goals day)

I use TrackBear and I adore it (I was raving about it here yesterday). It's completely free and there's no gross AI slop, data harvesting or ads. And I love that I can track things other than words. Being able to track time when I'm editing is a really useful feature for me. 🏷️ #PretendPanel

I'm sharing my favourite writing apps with no AI, ads, or data harvesting! Ellipsus.com Beautiful, fully-featured writing environment. There's a paid option, but the free version is amazing. TrackBear.app Free writing tracker for words, chapters, pages, scenes, lines and time. 🏷️ #PretendPanel

My goal this week is to do anything that isn't writing. I'm having a between-drafts break, so I'm going to be joyscrolling on Bluesky and Tumblr, indulging in photography, reading (a lot) and generally letting my creative battery recharge. 🏷️ #QueerWriters (goals day)

I did accomplish the thing. The latest round of revisions on Miles From Morning is complete and I'm on track to start posting it on Patreon in September. I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED!!! I hope everyone else had an awesome week and is enjoying their weekend so far 💜 🏷️ #QueerWriters (check in day)

My answers for this weekend's #PretendPanel questions are so boring 🙈 I mostly read ebooks and listen to audiobooks. If I am going to buy a physical book, which is really only non-fic/reference books, I don't even think about fancy aesthetic stuff.

Happy Saturday, #PretendPanel! With special limited edition print releases being something of an industry staple these days, how do YOU feel about special artistic embellishments on book exteriors? This can be alternate covers, special finishes, sprayed edges, anything above and beyond in print.

I rarely read books with maps included and I don't pay them any attention when they are. I'm shit at reading maps, so that might have something to do with it. I guess I sort of notice other images like fancy dividers and chapter titles etc but but I don't notice an absence of them. 🏷️ #PretendPanel

It's another lovely weekend, #PretendPanel! Today we ask: How do you feel about those extra artistic flourishes inside of prose books? What is something you would like to see more (or less) of on the page? Or, what are some artistic touches you've included in your own publications?

Hi. I'm here to gently interrupt your scrolling with a picture of the Irish countryside being beautiful. Unclench your jaw. Take a few deep breaths. Maybe have a drink of that tea or coffee you made ages ago and forgot about. There. OK. Now you can go back to scrolling ☘️💚

Weathered fenceposts in uneven grassy terrain with a forest in the distance. The sky is vibrant blue with wispy clouds and the grass is shades of green and gold.

Hey, that's a nice [THING YOU DO FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE], be a real shame if somebody were to [CONVINCE YOU TO MONETIZE IT, TRANSFORMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP INTO AN OBLIGATION AND ROBBING YOU OF JOY]

So the zine making presentation was lovely. It was more about just making fun zines. I made a simple 8 page one and ran out of space, so I may look at making a 16 page as opposed to having multiple parts. Here's the first and last page.

A folded zine that reads "Why gen-AI sucks and you shouldn't use it." There is a small smiley face with X's for eyes and a tongue sticking out.Back page of a zine that reads "The future is and always will be human. Stay tuned for pt. 2!" There is also a stick figure surrounded by green and blue.

I'm attending an open education resources/open pedagogy conference (virtually) and one of the presenters actually asked my permission to use a zine I had made for their presentation! As an example of zine making in the OER space. I feel so cool 😎

My week was good! I'm on schedule with Miles From Morning revisions and I'm super excited to be planning for release on Patreon in September. I hope everyone else had a great week 💜 🏷️ #QueerWriters (check in day)

I know this is boring, but I don't really. I'm sometimes inspired by imagery I run into in other media, but I don't actively seek it out. I used to use Pinterest before it became a steaming pile of AI slop, but even that was more about sharing the aesthetics than planning the story. 🏷️ #PretendPanel

It's Friday and I have a fresh haircut - let's dive back into #PretendPanel! Pulling back the curtain, what visual aids (if any) do you use when planning your story? Do you try to pin down specifics, or just cultivate the vibe?
