Win Without War Commends House for Passing Iran War Powers Resolution WASHINGTON – In response to the House’s passage of H.Con.Res.86, a war powers resolution terminating U.S. hostilities against Iran, Win Without War Government Relations Director Eric Eikenberry released the following statement: “After 95 days of illegal war, Congress is finally enacting the will of the people, who overwhelmingly oppose President Trump’s disastrous war on Iran. We commend the bipartisan coalition that has emerged to pass Rep. Greg Meeks’ war powers resolution (WPR) in the House of Representatives today. We strongly urge the Senate to follow suit and swiftly to pass Sen. Kaine’s latest WPR, which should face another procedural motion in the coming days. “While congressional action is welcome, it’s woefully late. Congress should not have taken over three months to pass a resolution that would force Trump to end his war. Their delay has left millions of people struggling amidst unnecessary, unacceptable human and economic consequences. Lawmakers who’ve placed their loyalty to Trump over acting to determine when and whether the United States goes to war have failed both their constituents and their constitutional duty. “Because of renewed congressional momentum and sustained public opposition, the Trump administration is circling around the only solution that ever made sense, one which they and DC hawks inexcusably ripped up in 2018: a diplomatic agreement to cap Iranian nuclear enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief. It is imperative, before Trump does any further damage, that Congress do all it can to stop and defund this war and push the administration to take this deal.”
