The images coming from Ceuta are unacceptable. We cannot allow anyone to come to our Union without abiding by our rules. Dangerous crossings must stop immediately. Smuggling networks must be dismantled. And returns must be swift, as our rules allow.
My thoughts are with the people of Japan after the devastating earthquake that has already claimed so many lives. We also think of the rescuers that are working tirelessly through the rubble to save those still trapped.
Europe stands with France and Spain as they face devastating wildfires. 5 planes and 2 helicopters from the rescEU fleet are now deployed to France. And 4 planes are arriving in Spain today.
