I asked my son if he’d like to go on holiday last night. For a second his eyes lit up and then this the first thing he said: “we’d need to find somewhere safe for LGBTQ people. Where’s left?!” That should not be his response.

Butler comes from a generation that knew Freud well and took such work seriously, and I think that's relevant for why Butler is able to see this kind of thing so clearly while many others today aren't.
