#ResistanceRoots Yuri Kochiyama was born on this day in 1921 in San Pedro, Calif. She became a radical, intersectional political activist following her family’s internment during WWII. She dedicated more than 50 years of her life to social justice, black liberation and interethnic solidarity. /1

Yuri Kochiyama. She remained an activist into her later years and also spent time documenting her legacy. In 2004, she published her autobiography, Passing It On. She also donated hundreds of boxes of her political writings and archives to institutions such as UCLA's Asian American Studies Center and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture to ensure her materials would be preserved for future generations.
