SHARE UNITED STATES 2026 ELECTION DEFENSE SCENARIOS: INDIVISIBLE HANDS OFF OUR VOTE BEFORE ELECTION DAY Attempts to silence voters begin long before polls open - from voter purges and sudden rule changes to attacks on voting infrastructure. The most important thing to know is that we are not powerless - we can organize to defeat these efforts and ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot and be counted. Swipe through the scenarios — and start building the relationships and plans your community will need in 2026. Indivisible's Hands Off Our Vote will have tools to help you every step of the way. This series is adapted from Freedom Trainer's "Election Defense Scenarios." Election procedures vary by state and may change quickly. Confirm current information with state and local election officials and seek qualified legal guidance when needed.CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION VOTER ROLL PURGES Eligible voters could discover they are no longer registered. Officials may use inaccurate data to remove voters from the rolls or challenge their eligibility at the polls. Purges fall hardest on Black voters, voters of color, and infrequent voters. But a purge doesn't have to become a lost vote. Check your registration regularly and help others do the same. Make sure voters know their options if their names are missing. Join voter purge phone banks to help protect those most at risk. INDIVISIBLE HANDS OFF 2026 Election Defense Scenarios OUR VOTEID REQUIREMENTS CLOSE TO ELECTION The ID you've always used may not be accepted. New or inconsistently enforced voter ID rules could leave eligible voters confused, unprepared, or incorrectly turned away. These barriers are especially likely to affect voters who are older, low-income, students, naturalized citizens, or using a married name. Learn your state's current ID rules and help your community obtain ID now. 2026 Election Defense Scenarios INDIVISIBLE HANDS OFF OUR VOTEDROP BOX SABOTAGE / BOMB THREATS Drop boxes or voting sites may be damaged, threatened, or temporarily closed to create fear and confusion. The goal: make voting feel unsafe and convince people to stay home. Vote early. Know where to find accurate, official updates.
