If I were piggybacking on years of other people’s work without contributing a shred of innovation myself, I’d feel embarrassed rather than proud. I wonder how much of that “innovation” and sovereignty would survive if Bluesky cut W off from its infrastructure. #grifters

Alexander@zionillinois.bsky.social · 3w agoThe biggest problem seems to be that the signup screen as of 10/9 only said "Your real name will be visible publicly" for the first option – not nationality or YOB. bsky.app/profile/wsoc... The UI they posted yesterday 10/13 seems to have been updated to include those: bsky.app/profile/wsoc...

Europe needs to take information warfare seriously. Owning and controlling our own European platforms, where posting requires human verification, is one important part of that defence
Under the 1st option only the name is said to be public. You still publish nationality & birth-year date for those users. Nothing in your privacy notice, your TOS or this screen allows that. @ec.europa.eu & @ad4europe.eurosky.social is this the platform you want to endorse, or time for your own PDS?

We've been doing social media analytics for well over a decade, no other social media platform provided public age data per account like this Facebook has user_birthday but users must authorize the app to read their own data, not of any account! Have we not learned anything from Cambridge Analytica
