It is a false distinction to see the atrocious attack in Berlin as something unique or exceptional. It is wrong to claim that it is an "attack on our free societies". It is a continuation of the practices of these societies. Only if we overcome these practices can we actually be safe.
organizations and citizens in liberal democracies. Our compassion, our pride, our solidarity and our joy are our ways of resisting these practices of violence. Because of this community we do not need the false sympathies of those who participate in the practices of violence, who oppress our lives.
is seen as a threat to traditions, categories and binaries that our societies are built around. Queerness challenges these norms and structures because it proves that people can move beyond them. Anti-queer violence is the answer to this challenge. Not only from extremists but from the institutions
It is a structural practice. From being bullied in school, to being threatened for the expression of our affection. Our bodies, love and even existence are regulated and oppressed by the state. Our events, organizations and spaces get attacked nearly daily. All of this because our mere existence
Being queer means being the target of violence. Every queer person knows this. It's deeply engraved in who we are. We live with it every day of our lives. Not because of terrorism but because it is structurally enshrined in our "free" societies. Violence against queer people is not an exception ...

Dabei sind "Hitzeschutz" und "Klimaanpassung" jetzt überlebenswichtige Themen. Nicht zuletzt hat auch der Kanzler wohl selbst erstmalig im Büro des Kanzleramts eine Klimaanlage installieren lassen.

I wrote this a year and a half ago. Unsurprisingly, Labour has experienced the same electoral decline as other European social democratic parties because of this strategy. Yet, pundits still make the same lazy claims. Politicians live in their phantasm of the “doorstep.” As if research did not exist
