As you can see, fires in the Pacific NW are getting much larger in recent decades. The largest fires (100K acres+) have increased by 10-15X since the 1980s. 1/

Severe weather and flash flooding are expected across parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through the night with additional flash flooding concerns across New England on Wednesday.

The main weather stories today are the Extreme Heat Warning for most of the central US caused by a broad ridge which will push temps above 100, severe weather, mainly wind, hail, and flooding, from IL into the Great Lakes from an embedded shortwave, and the continued monsoon in the Southwest.
Tropical Storm Bertha is heading toward Texas, a glorified blob more than anything. But it’ll still bring (welcome) rains to drier South Texas and some gusty downpours up toward Houston. More details below or at theeyewall.com.

Tropical Storm #Bertha Advisory 9 (10 AM CDT, Tue Jul 21): Air Force Hurricane Hunters Find Bertha Has Strengthened. The Tropical Storm Warning was extended eastward across the Florida Panhandle and westward to the Terrebonne/Lafourche Parish Line in Louisiana.
