That white peg amidst the tree is all that remains of my weather station. 😅 RIP AWS

Well that was interesting. 90mph wind gusts in Norman. I have a 40 foot cottonwoods down in my yard. It took out our fence and, ironically, my weather station. It also somehow blew out the pilot light in our gas fireplace. I’ve never been spooked by wind. That one freaked me out.
Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic film! Anyone with even a small interest in weather should see it. Anyone with no interest in weather should see it. I think meteorologists in particular will have a deep appreciation for this film and the true story it depicts.
A movie about one of the most consequential weather forecasts in history? I am sat. Waiting for the movie to start! I’ll update with my thoughts after.

Do I know anyone here who is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist?
I’ve seen chatter about SPC’s forecast not being good yesterday in Oklahoma because there wasn’t a CIG2. Reminder that CIG1 doesn’t mean there won’t be tornadoes greater than EF2. Each CIG bin has a target distribution for each EF intensity. Each CIG bin also has target parameter values. (1/2)
This pretty much sums up the past 5 overnight outlook shifts (issuing outlooks for days 2-7). 🤦🏻♀️
Forecasts aren’t always satisfying. We can’t always perfectly anticipate what’s going to occur. Sometimes environments are conditional - if it happens, it could be intense/impactful - but we aren’t sure the storm will develop. Welcome to the severe risk for parts of the Plains the next several days.
Going to escape from the world for a few hours this evening with Bad Omens, Beartooth, and PRESIDENT. 🖤🤘🏼

Never a good sign when a weather map turns purple! Widespread winds of 50-65 mph being reported through 1pm, with a few stronger local gusts! #okwx #okmesonet

Conversation with my husband when I asked him to vacuum the storm shelter: J: Do you really think we’ll need it? Me: Well it’s not zero. J: Ok but do you think we’ll have a tornado here? How likely is it? Me: Well it’s low. It’s always technically low at any given location because it’s a very…

A new era for SPC Outlooks & severe storms forecasting begins today! If you haven’t seen the new outlook (severe & fire weather) graphics yet, check out the SPC website. www.spc.noaa.gov Increasing severe risk in the coming days will give a first live look at the new conditional intensity levels.
Spring storm season has arrived in the Plains very active pattern expected this week.
If you thought Oklahoma felt particularly warm this winter (especially February), you’d be correct.
If you thought February was warm (and heck, most of climatological winter, too), then you weren't imagining things. The statewide average for both easily broke their previous records by at least a half of a degree according to data from the Oklahoma Mesonet! #okwx #okmesonet

🧵: My 8 yo daughter joined Girl Scouts this year and it’s officially cookie season! If anyone is looking for cookies, you can order via the QR code or going to her webpage. She spent all morning making this flyer in Canva and asked me to share it with “your weather friends online”. (1/2)
🗣️NEW: In collaboration with our SPC/CIWRO research scientists, the new Severe Hazards Data Viewer is available: spc.noaa.gov/climo/datavi.... On this webpage you can view a 30-yr record for severe storms, wildfires, and lightning in the dynamic and customizable data display.
🧵SPC will be introducing new information in Convective Outlooks starting in early March. The following thread will offer some basic information regarding these changes. The TL;DR: outlook categories are not changing! But there will be more info for peak hazard intensity.
If you still have an X account, more info is now on the NWSSPC page there. Facebook will be updated later when I’m done doing Day 2-3 outlooks. 😅
