Hello lovely people! We are back for the new term with a whole new programme of music - Fibich, Dvorak, & Smetana 🎼🎵🎶 #ConductorQuote of the night so far: “Strings, would you like to try that slowly, to get the fingerings? [pause while strings indicate unwillingness] Well, you’re going to!”
What a brilliant evening! The weather was perfect, the music was fantastic, & the fireworks rounded off the concert beautifully 🌞🎼🎶🎆 Special mention for Gillian (oboe) & Cathy (bassoon) for getting the audience “skiing” during Pop Goes Bach - definitely a highlight of the night ❤️ #PromInTheCastle
Here’s our sign! #PromInTheCastle The audience are already arriving, picnics, folding chairs, flags, and we spy several bottles of fizz in some cool-boxes.. 🍾🎼
Today’s the day! #PromInTheCastle at Pontefract Castle The weather looks good & we are raring to go! If you fancy coming to watch, there are still some tickets available #LiveMusic #Fireworks #Yorkshire

Oi @lindsay22w.bsky.social if you do the “oms” we’ll do the “pah-pahs” 😘
@wyso-leeds.bsky.social just a heads up that any horn players arriving with viola cases will be expected to sit in the viola section and endure 3 pages of pom pom-ing while the rest of the orchestra waltzes on their ice skates

Apart from that clearly being a trumpet… the horns get plenty of pom-poms of their own 😂

There is a theme to this year’s prom - travel and transport, with the usual crowd-pleaser sing-along pieces to finish 🎼🎵🎶 (Some of the transport connections may be a touch … tenuous … but it means we can pay some cracking music 😁)
First full orchestra rehearsal after Easter, having a run-through of our Pontefract prom pieces #PromInTheCastle The horn section have been particularly enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean 🏴☠️📯📯📯📯🏴☠️
