Right, so, apparently I need to find a new brand of toothpaste... What do 9/10 non-bigot-promoting dentists recommend these days?
Smash hit musical West Side Story is being rereleased with an extra four minutes of footage, linking it to Avengers Doomsday. Rooftop scene: music: Men: I think that I'll be an Avenger Ok by me as an Avenger Spandex for free as an Avenger Women; (scornfully) Land on your knee as an Avenger

My next gig / first gig of the term. James Farrell Concert Band @ The Holbeck, Leeds, in aid of Wheatfields Hospice. It's rumoured that there's a raffle prize of a chance to conduct the band for one piece in the gig. Good luck!
Next gig but, erm, four? No, five... or is it six? This term's getting busy...
And here’s the updated poster! Again, link in the quoted post. We’re practising the Dvorak tonight 🎼🎵🎶
Our next concert is the afternoon of Sunday 29th November. More info & a link to buy tickets here: (it is definitely on the Sunday btw 🙊) wyso.org.uk/index.php/ev...

Leeds Symphony Orchestra (The #OriginalLSO) rehearsals have started. Next concert is just a few weeks away, and we're doing this little lot. The concert is on 10th October, as part of the Wetherby Festival. More details to follow. Maybe. #ClassicalMusic #LiveMusic #Leeds #Yorkshire
August is all but over. Back to work tomorrow, but here's the round up of what I got up to on one of my weeks off. thelonedoublebass.wordpress.com/2026/08/30/w... tl;dr - friends, great music, too many instruments, insufficient sleep.
Yesterday's playing - OK, I'm late, but the week is now over... :-( Martinu nonet - we dabbled with Frans Coenan as well, but almost everyone disliked it. Gary Carpenter - Pantomime. (Same combo as Mozart's "Gran Partita"; contains very high notes) Novak - Ballettines (nonet) Beethoven - Septet
Yes, and a significant amount of background noise would disappear from my life as a result. See also: Association football, soap operas, Radio 1, and all right-wing politicians and associated gobshites.
Yes. In fact, my productivity would increase because I wouldn’t have to work to exclude AI slop and disable AI throatware.
Today's playing is done. Dvorak Serenade (double bass part, obvs). I have the afternoon off, so am spending it supervising electricians. Fun times...
Today's playing: double bass: * Francaix - Dixtuor * Till Eulenspiegel Einmal Anders oboe: concert band rehearsal this evening for the next gig on 16th August, Stanningley Park, some time in the afternoon, be there or be somewhere else I'm knackered...
Today's playing was restricted to just the two pieces, but definitely what the kids call bangers. Schubert - Octet Spohr - Nonet. I'm knackered.
Busy day of music with some lovely people. Played some quintets (ob,clarinet, violin, viola, bass) - Prokofiev & Gipps (should have been cello, but...) And some nonets - Lachner & Farrenc. There's my supply of earworms for the evening.
Apparently, I'm playing this little ditty tomorrow. Yikes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=990g... Fortunately, bass rather than ob. But the bassist's expression in the preview/thumbnail image from the video looks like it may be similar to one I'll be making at various points... #Prokofiev #WhyMe

I am once again begging Hollywood to stop using the Greek alphabet for an Ancient World movie, if they can't afford to even throw a couple of quid at anyone with an inkling of the language. Unless they really think audiences are dying to see THS THDPSSSSPS
Two gigs played today: 1. James Farrell Concert Band, outdoors, at Temple Newsam 2. White Rose Orchestra, indoors in Horsforth. Three instruments played today in those two gigs: 1. Oboe 2. Oboe, Cor Anglais, Cello I'm knackered. Need cooling drink in large quantities.
The cooling system was installed by the village AC technician, Thermodynamix 😊
Back in February, I wrote on the corporate blog about AI. I had a follow-up post written about the impact of AI on infrastructure, but it failed to get through the corporate blogkeepers - no idea why. So here it is on my own blog. Four months late. thelonedba.wordpress.com/2026/06/21/a...
