Software engineer in PDX, trying to figure out how to get there by bike
This happening on the same day I get a mailer from TriMet about my reduced bus service is… 😚👌
After today's discussion and rejection of any attempt to strengthen the City's draft Moda Center term sheet, I am less and less convinced that it's worth making this public investment even if EVERY item in that term sheet is agreed to by the team (it won't be).
Unlocked the binoculars and then just spent the next five hours birding. 10/10
🔴🟡🔵 BIG WALK 🔴🟡🔵 Out now on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. Hooray!
"when the wife's away, you know what that means" i say to myself as i put in Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3 into the CD player and crank the volume wayyyyy up
Trying to figure out how to get to a friends house without driving, and thinking I could probably find time to make a bike ride work, but the bike route looks like this
out here carving [mine] <3 [my wife's initials] into wet cement at every opportunity i get
Brooklyn Neighborhood mentioned but it’s because the city stole our waterslide
They have better modal filters in Wildwood than we do on neighborhood greenways
This is a physical environment we built by hand for Wildwood 🤩
Finally got around to replacing our bike rack, and this time I’ve rigged it to explode
Time to add a new bike rack to the pile
If I say I’m scaring the ladies away, you already know I’m talking about the Painted Lady butterfly I accidentally spray while watering the garden
Top contender for painted bike infrastructure I contemplate my own mortality in

My politics is whatever this is:
Every speed bump I bike over going uphill on a “neighborhood greenway” is an act of domestic terrorism against me personally
Biking home from The Odyssey and my wife said “oh look, a free pile” as if we didn’t JUST watch a 3-hour long movie about this
Yes, I actually love that the main way out of my neighborhood entails crossing oncoming traffic with a curb so shallow the tactile paving is run over to point of destruction and also people illegally turn across a double yellow on Powell
Portland should have a couple dedicated bike expressways. Closed to cars, and all stopsigns along it face cross-traffic. Even just one, running east/west, and maybe one north/south would be cool. This sharrow and afterthought bike lane stuff we got going on is not enough for cross town trips.
I can finally move the orange line down through sellwood on SE 17th and pretend it's like that irl 😔
No one warns you, but if you sign up for a Notice of Intent to Participate and comment on the Union Pacific / Norfolk Southern merger, you get added to a massive email distribution list that gets spammed when _anyone else_ also signs up Up there with some of the worst reply-all fiascos
So funny these barriers already got pushed back another 90 feet into the cul-de-sac because the empty lot needs to be used for parking We can't even keep a dead-end street, sandwiched between a storage facility and an empty field, pedestrianized for 2 months before it's reclaimed for cars
Fascinating to see the city does indeed have the time, materials, and resources to block off streets quickly and effectively Makes me wonder what the impetus was here versus all the pedestrian plazas and safer greenways we could have (rhetorical)
PBOT is like everyone should feel safe using neighborhood greenways, and then they show you these skid marks from drivers doing donuts in the intersection
I’m watching Jackass at Laurelhurst, and the only other person in the theater is Mitch McConnell
