In San Antonio, councilors just voted down a proposal to ask the public to vote on whether to spend nearly $500m on an new NBA arena. A lot of similarities (to Portland's Moda debate) in the discourse: "Completing this arena is widely viewed as a necessity to keep the Spurs in San Antonio."

Not every pedestrian street will work year-round, at least not yet. Some need to be strengthened/revitalized first. The street has to already be reasonably successful as a sustainable summer people-magnet. Vancouver’s Granville Street isn’t ready yet. Seattle’s Pike Place IS ready to be year-round.

I just watched a Waymo, with people inside, drive through a police barricade for a street festival. And the police couldn’t do anything about it. The Waymo wouldn’t stop. Safety first, amirite????

Your city isn’t doing enough to address the climate crisis. We are beyond the time for incremental changes like EVs - cities need to be getting people out of cars, which means significantly increasing housing density and investing in high frequency transit.

Before (2011) / After (2026) Voie Georges Pompidou, Paris Centre. It was pedestrianized in 2016. in 2026 for the first time, there is a swimming pool here in the Seine. Note also the barge restaurants in the back, that appeared as soon as 2014, when there were temporary pedestrianizations.

Update from @trimet.org today: Without additional revenue, TriMet's budget deficit will ultimately force the agency to cut in excess of 33% of its total service by 2030 or 2031. This is what a 31% service could look like:
