This guidance does not do what the so-called EHRC claims. It is clearly NOT protecting our Trans friends at all, indeed it creates another path of harassment (which will also impact many non-trans folk). It's terrible.

This plane landed in Myanmar about three hours ago. This is the third ICE flight to Myanmar this year. Burmese deportees in 2025 were immediately sent to a torture facility next to the airport, according to Myanmar Now. Weeks later, not all of them had emerged.

For Immediate Release, Wednesday, 5 August 2026

New Karen Worldwide Advocacy Network to Campaign for International Support

The Karen Worldwide Advocacy Network (KWAN) has been established to advocate for more international support for the Karen people, to ensure rights and protection, self-determination, sustainable development and long-lasting peace in our homeland, Kawthoolei, and for the rights and protection of Karen people across Burma and the world.

KWAN is made up of Karen communities worldwide, Karen civil society organisations in Burma, Kawthoolei and internationally, and Karen activists. It consists of 4 regions- Karen CBOs & CSOs, Karen communities in Europe, Karen communities in North America, and Karen communities in Asia Pacific.

Seven advocacy objectives have been agreed for the network.
Objective 1: Civilian Protection
Objective 2: Humanitarian Access and Support
Objective 3: Political Recognition and Inclusion
Objective 4: Accountability and Justice
Objective 5: Refugee and Diaspora Rights
Objective 6: Self-Determination and Democratic Governance
Objective 7: Combating Transnational Crime and Online Scam Operations

"For decades Karen people have been forced from their homeland by the violence and repression of the Burmese military and central governments," said Naw Htoo Htoo. "Now there are established Karen communities all over the world, many living in democratic countries, and we can use our freedom and political influence to advocate for stronger international action against the Burmese military and to engage with local Karen stakeholders and Karen civil society providing aid and services to the Karen people."

Immediate priorities for advocacy include:
International action to reduce arms, equipment and money reaching the Burmese military.
Increased aid for more than 1 million internally displaced people in the Kawthoolei area, via local civil society networks.
International rejection of the legitimacy of the Burmese military regime.
Justice and accountability, ending impunity, including exploring universal jurisdiction in countries where Karen people live.
Protection for the rights and well-being of Karen refugees and diaspora communities.
More support to help combat transnational organised crime and online scam operations in Karen areas to protect local communities, uphold human rights, and promote regional security.

KWAN has three team leaders who have been given the responsibility to lead on advocacy campaigns research, preparation of materials, strategy and tactics. They are Nant Zoya Phan, Naw
Myra Dahgaypaw and Naw Htoo Htoo.
KWAN has two coordinators who have been given the responsibility of working with Karen communities worldwide on the implementation and coordination of campaigns. They are Nant Bwa Bwa Phan, and Naw Ler Lah Khu Htoo.
"Karen people all over the world will be mobilising to advocate for more international action to reduce the ability of the Burmese military to attack our people, advocate for justice and accountability to end the Burmese military impunity, and to ensure displaced Karen communities receive adequate humanitarian assistance," said Nant Bwa Bwa Phan. "We call on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the US government, United Kingdom, European Union, and other countries to support our people struggle by rejecting the Burmese military, and instead to engage more with revolutionary ethnic and political groups and civil society in Burma."

Been a while since I looked at @thomasvlinge.bsky.social Myanmar map which he's just updated Given all the talk of big Junta advances in the last 6 months, the mapping suggests there hasn't been a huge amount of territorial gain by them. a corridor in chin & towards Kachin & some patches

Its a fairly major development that the Junta have allowed the ICRC to visit ASSK in Myanmar. There has been a big campaign by her supporters for the Junta to provide "Proof of life". Suspect that they have not because of pressure but because doing so helps them spin the story of "normalisation".
