today's thing to overthink: to find work, what is the ideal ratio of "able to write music in any style/genre" to "having my own distinct artistic sound"

this takes a lot of inspo from animal crossing OSTs, btw! - pop dominant voicings (sus11 or sus13 slash chords, e.g. Fmaj7/G or Bb/C) - unresolved (often dominant function) chords sustained on weak beats - tonicization/modal interchange, pedal tones analyzing and writing it is so much fun...
