It's wild that this date is actually arriving. When I was a little kid, I met Ray Bradbury. He was so nice to me. My mother took me to a local library to hear him speak about his vision of the future. It was a fundraiser for the library. I was 14, a teenager uninterested in much but video games.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

I'm incredibly grateful for the time I got to spend as part of this little audio team, it's sad that it has to come to an abrupt end, but I'm still so very proud of the work we managed to accomplish on Zero Parades 🤧 Anyone would be lucky to have these folks on their team! I'm gonna miss you all!🐮✨

Sadly, the entire audio team at ZA/UM is being made redundant as part of the layoffs. If you're looking (or expect to be looking) for Sound Designers or Tech Sound Designers, please don't hesitate in reaching out to @eliforster.bsky.social, @missgameaudio.bsky.social and @soundbear.bsky.social

I remember driving to the mall on Sep 7, 1997, to pick up my preorder of Final Fantasy VII. I was 17. It was a Sunday, so I had to wait for the mall to open. I then sat in the car and opened the case because I was so excited. I wanted to see the manual before the 15 minute drive home. I miss that.

As usual I’m way behind on cool stuff because work and being a dad, but Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is blowing my mind right now. This may be a top five of all time game for me if it keeps going like this.

If media (games, movies, music, books, etc.) is something you're passionate about, take control of it. Back up your stuff. Run your own server. It's work, yeah, but relying on companies to do it for you means you'll lose things. Set up a RAID, get Backblaze, archive and back up your stuff.

My teenage son is getting sucked into Nier Automata. I’m trying not to act too excited about it. I don’t want him to see dad think it’s cool and decide not to continue. But it’s great to see him getting pulled in by such a fantastic game.

I have never met anybody who stopped working in games and regretted the pivot. And if things ever get better and you really want it, you'll find your way back. But you don't have to stay in an abusive relationship. They don't improve.

I will say this much: there is zero shame in leaving the game industry. Be it because you're not finding your next role, or because you're tired of it and need a break. The industry doesn't deserve the people who work in it, and you owe it nothing.

Just got caught up on industry news and... long exhale. What in the fresh hell. If you're in game audio or production and need a portfolio or resume review, I'm a former hiring manager and would be happy to help. Email's the best place to reach me (marina@marinamakes.co)

I played through 007 Nightfire on GameCube over the last week. Had a great time. It’s from 2003 I believe. Not quite boomer shooter but definitely an older vibe. The girls falling over themselves (even more than in the films) were a bit cringey but otherwise great fun.
