As we have traveled deeper into the class of beneficiaries of the system our criticisms have largely remained focused around the ways the system could more generously benefit us rather than ways it could exclude fewer people
Consumerism has become so universally embraced that it now subsumes and underlies left-leaning critiques of the economy. They’re literally consumer complaints: “the things I can buy aren’t good enough, and too expensive.”
My hot take is that people being fixated on critiquing the quality and price of consumer goods represents a triumph of capitalism that would appall many of the people who are thusly fixated.
