THE THIRD LOVE x THE NAMES After a sudden rebirth, Max wishes for an easy, love-filled life, ignoring the claim that his affection is cursed. As he avoids work & devotes himself to his beloved, de*th finds his loved ones. Max must decide if life is still worth living. #SEAsianPit #Q #A #Spec #F #LF

In the background, spanning all four images, is commissioned art of post-reincarnation Mac in ancient robes, reaching for a reflection of his pre-reincarnation self in modern-day clothes. Paper falls around them, and a red ribbon swirls behind them.
The text in this first image reads: Years of Red Tears, 100,000 words literary speculative novel.
David Copperfield meets time travel C-dramas. Spontaneously reborn as an ancient noble, MAX wishes for all the wealth and love he never had despite high familial expectations and a curse to kill others with his affection. He'll do anything for his ideal life, even if it means marrying a stranger and becoming the next foreign minister. But when death won't stop knocking, he must decide if life is still worth living without someone to live for. Otherwise, the familiar yearning for death may be his greatest calling.

When we met, I thought I was hallucinating. That the cumulation of all my make-believe was a mental breakdown. When I found that we were intrinsically tied, I couldn't wish for anything more. That was where I was wrong. The spirits abound reminded me that I am bound to every flower I touch. Because you are not a flower of this world, rather a floating cloud, I can never reach you. You can never entwine with me.
With all that has transpired, I remain a boy who wants to live for myself and die for love.

As we’re entering a new season of pitch events, we want to remind querying authors of some schmagent red flags. This is your sign to reach out if you need help vetting your agent list!! cre: @lillyluwrites.bsky.social @solarhoang.bsky.social 🧵1/2

SCHMAGENT RED FLAGS TO LOOK OUT FOR by Lilly Lu and Solar Hoàng

01. CHARGING FOR EDITORIAL SERVICES

An agency will never charge you money! Editorial services on top of rep is also a conflict of interest and is the classic sign of a schmagency. This applies to agents plugging their external editorial service as well.

02. FOUNDER HAS NO AGENCY EXPERIENCE

Agenting is an apprenticeship -based profession. Many agents go through YEARS of training and networking under a mentor before taking on their own clients, let alone founding their own agency. Without years of experience, they would not have industry connections to submit your manuscript(s) to.

03. A YAPPY AND ONLINE TWITTER AGENT

It’s not bad if an agent is active on social media, but it might be a red flag if they do not many sales or no sales to major publishers in combination with no mentorship. Another MAJOR point: if they're always weighing in on dramas just to get engagement. Publishers pay attention to socmed!

The Magic of Now

The story of a 62-year-old farmer,
the goat her sister may be reincarnated into,
and the new age cult that could be behind it.
Guide to
By: Cailin Barrett-Bressack
Rep: Alex Land, Mad Woman Literary Agency

Gyla, 62-year old in mourning, encounters a mysterious goat on her farm that she suspects contains the consciousness of her recently deceased sister, Tina. Her quest for answers eventually leads to ReNewAll, a reclusive new-age community fixated on death and grieving– and with a goat on their brochures.
In addition to nonsensical classes like Stargazing with Your Eyes Closed and Untangling the Truth through Macrame, ReNewAll and its neuroscientist leader teach The Magic of Now, a practice that allows members to vividly revisit memories of their deceased loved ones.
As Gyla grows from skeptic and unlikely cult infiltrator to a willing member of ReNewAll’s inner circle, she must ultimately choose between immersing herself in an illusion of the past where Tina is still alive (and human), or dedicating herself to the imperfect (but tangible) version of her sister that is trapped inside the body of a goat.

How to Age Disgracefully

A Snippet
The Milky Way painted across the bowl of sky is technicolor and dizzying. The stars seem close enough that if she were to reach out and run her hands across the pricks of them, they’d snag splinters in her fingertips.

The wind grows louder. Gyla walks towards her pond, the forest pressing into the shore on three sides. Later in the spring, the pond's surface will be laced with pale green algae, but this early in the season the water is smooth glass, reflecting the night sky and also—the goat.

Gyla sees its reflection first, then draws her eyes up to where it stands motionless across the water. It’s hard to make out every detail in the muted blues of night, but she can tell who it is the moment she sees it.

“Tina?” Gyla whispers. The goat cocks its head to one side in response.

Gyla is not sure why she says her sister’s name aloud. It’s a physical knowing, the same way she senses weather changes in the marrow of her right knee. When she sees the goat, she feels her sister with her for the first time in months.

The goat approaches her cautiously. Its ear is pierced where an identification tag had been, but the tag is gone, and Gyla can see the stars reflecting on the surface of the pond through the small empty window in the cartilage.

Gyla knows she should be wondering if her mind is playing tricks on her. But she doesn’t waver in her conviction. Somehow, she can tell–this is her sister.

It’s Tina.
