Software Engineer. Game Developer. Hater of Generative AI.

I saw a game trailer that was about how the game was made as a pursuit of a dream, specifically to inspire their children to follow theirs... but then the AI disclosure pretty makes it pretty clear they did most of it with genAI. It's not about the journey, it's about the destination. what.

It's very frustrating to see my former employer paying for celebrity endorsements after cutting 40% of the the company only months prior. Just screaming into the aether on this one.

I feel like Monster Sanctuary and Ultros deserve more recognition in the "Metroidvania" space. They're both games that do things quite differently. Monster Sanctuary does RPG battles. Ultros is an entirely unique experience.

I keep mulling over the whole lawsuit between NYT and OpenAI and I still don't know how it's going to play out. Do paywalls become the new thing? Social media with a paywall to keep bots out? Is there hope of an outcome that kills genAI as a consumer product?

Having finished reading Yugioh, I started on GX... it's not good (so far). It's just people playing the retail card game. The original series was basically people playing a tabletop RPG with cards. Like, a character could do anything as long as there was a logic to it.

It's wild how there was this era of pinball videogames using major IP and that was the end of it. Sonic Spinball, Pokemon Pinball, Kirby's Pinball Land... all of them are great. I'd love a new Sonic Spinball.

My only doomerist take on genAI is that the technology isn't for consumers. It's for the government and people are paying to beta test and establish legal groundwork. Cyberwarfare, surveillance, propaganda.

Turns out Steam has a limit on how many Developers/Publishers you can ignore. I'd been hitting ignore on every developer with genAI products whenever I'd stumble across them. The popup says curator, but these don't actually show up under the ignored curators page.

An error window detailing that you can only ignore 100 curators at a time

The sequence at the end of the tutorial in FF Resonance is gorgeous. Games out there chasing photorealism and this HD-2D thing is one of the most mind blowing things I've seen. I might stop playing there just to savour it more at release.

I had this realization that the best ideas are the ones that people will pitch with a line like "I have this dumb idea". It means they thought about it to the extent that they now have doubts about it. The idea was so inspiring that they continued to think it through.

I started watching Shangri-La Frontier and it's actually good? The MC is kinda boring and so far it's solo MMO stuff with a boring class... But it really invokes the memories of old Everquest and FFXI and that whole dream of what MMOs could have been.
