How do people shape their future tales? Is it a projected present? A channeled vision? A reworking of issues? A reimagined past? A space of aspiration? Is it personal? Collective? A culture belief pushed forward? An altered space? A mission? It can be one of the above or all of the above.
Afrofuturism is an amalgamation of ways from the Diaspora and the Continent to view futures and alternate realities. These lived and imagined takes on spacetime inform humanity. Think of them as wisdom tools to grow and create from.
I've been reading "Imagining Black Diasporas," a book that accompanies the upcoming LACMA art show, (and includes my poem). Always invigorating to see the liminal take form.
