Repeatedly interrupted (she/her) 🌈 blm 🇵🇸 🇺🇦

Attended clinic with mum today and she has full range of movement in her arm! Three more weeks in the sling just in case. She is to start physio and have an ultrasound, which can be arranged locally unlike today’s appointment which was a six-hour round trip. I love the NHS but was that necessary?

In other news I don’t recommend your fiercely independent elderly single parent getting injured and needing your help. She hates it and is so stubborn and proud. MUM LET ME WATER YOUR GARDEN so you’re not wandering around in a sling with a tangled hose and several cats around your ankles FFS.

I’ve been at mum’s helping her out obviously and today we made a food shopping order so I could put it all away for her. The driver, who was about 17, insisted she show him her driving licence because she’d ordered ibuprofen. She’s 77. Have a word, Uber Eats.

So when we were in A&E with mum there was a big sign on the ceiling that said YOU ARE IN (hospital) EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT. For people who wake up there I guess. I can’t help but think we need a sign saying who the Prime Minister is because it changes so often 🙃

It’s back in! She’s in a sling! We’re on our way back to the farm! My GOD we were there a long time but everyone was absolutely lovely from the guy who brought us a cup of tea first thing this morning to the senior doctor who finally cracked it (pun intended). Thank you for being there.

Mum’s shoulder is dislocated. We (I mean she mostly) just went through a procedure that wouldn’t have been out of place in the Middle Ages except now the drugs are better. They’re doing another x-ray to confirm it’s back in place. Please cross fingers if so inclined.

Well, you do see life in a hospital waiting room. Boomers having full phone conversations on speakerphone. Men in their nineties threatening to flash us all to prove a nurse wrong about something or other. Drunk men calling a taxi because they’ve forgotten they already ordered one.

I know everybody feels like this and I don’t mean to sound ungrateful for our NHS but they do seem to be making a special effort to see every single person in this A&E department before my poor mum.

Mum fell down some steps at the farm this evening and we had to call an ambulance which brought us to A&E. She’s conscious but in a lot of pain. Been at the hospital nearly four hours; still waiting for x-rays, doing our best to remain cheerful. Very grateful it wasn’t worse. Good thoughts welcome.
