There are lots of things that make people feel good that are empty. I don’t rate making people feel good as an interesting thing to do with a story, the same way that I don’t rate making people feel bad either—which is why I also think Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life is dull.

Think it’s fine not to like Project Hail Mary — or any movie for that matter — hate away! But it’s interesting to call something useless after saying it successfully makes the audience feel good I like when a movie succeeds at it’s mission. Feel-bad films rock too!

Project Hail Mary is a placebo of a good movie. Packaged in the visuals and tropes that are familiar, so that you won’t notice that it’s completely empty.

Project Hail Mary was such saccharine nonsense. Overly sentimental “man with a dog” story that’s Interstellar for people who thought Interstellar was too difficult to handle. Disney movies aren’t even that basic.

There are a lot of people who were capable of being open-minded when Arabs and Muslims were simply the *subject* of US policy but whose response to those communities having an active role in American politics on par with other ethnic and faith groups has been to totally lose their shit.

I know I have RTd this several times, but: the WHOLE POINT of the State Department is that it’s supposed to be full of people who deal with other countries, and who could therefore be expected to look at that map and know IMMEDIATELY that it was wrong.

The State Department said ​it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.

I don't know how to say this in a way that isn't snotty: if you are changing your writing intentionally to sound "not like AI" or whatever, I think extremely little of your craft. This is simply not a problem or a consideration for an even moderately developed writer www.wired.com/story/more-t...
