When I got my Trabant back in 2023 it was extremely obvious that the gearbox was unhealthy based on the "interesting" noises it made. Finally got around to swapping it at the weekend. Three years in I STILL keep being surprised how pleasant this car is to work on.

Hmm...I wonder if pretty much the entire upper drop link bush being missing in action might be responsible for the god awful clonking noise from that corner of the Rover P4. Other side isn't far behind. New pair ordered.
Hardly groundbreaking, but any progress is progress. Figure this wire just being stuffed into the connector rather than being you know...connected...might have something to do with the temperamental brake warning light (especially having been here with my last P4). Light on the dash now works.
All of the engine bits are now back in the engine bay rather than the boot. Progress! Carb still needs a little dialling in, but running far better now I've set the tappets, brought some sanity to the carb settings and got the timing somewhere vaguely close to right. Onto the rear brakes next.
Quick and easy improvement job on the Rover before lunch today. The random neon red HT leads had been making my teeth itch since the day the car arrived here. I'd like to go back to the factory setup at some point but it's a fair way down the wish list yet. Discreet will do for now!
I'll take that, especially after last week's foul up. Had me going initially as we had a tight intake valve on no 5 so I had a dead miss initially. Oil change now, then get the valve clearances set properly rather than by Mk I Eyeball as we have so far.
I have now joined the club of Rover P4 110 owners who have made the mistake of forgetting to put the fluffing O-ring that sits between the head and water pump in place before installing the cylinder head. D'OH! I'm not the first and I definitely won't be the last to do this!
Communism meets capitalism. What better car to take to Costco than the Trabant? Yes I know I also have a huge Volvo estate, don't bring logic into this...

Random thing which is annoying me today. Why in Windows can I not customise system keyboard shortcuts? I do not have a Windows key not media shortcut keys. I do however have a whole bunch of function keys which spend 99.9% of the time doing nothing. Just let me use them!

After far too long parked under a tree next to my driveway waiting for me to get a replacement engine installed, my Trabant is back on the road. Now I just need to scrub off 9 months of tree gunk...Won't that be fun.
Looks like the Trabant will be back in action soon. New engine is mostly built up now. Just need to time the ignition side, fit the clutch then it should be ready to go back in the car.

I am officially in the market for a replacement engine for my Trabant. Or if it's cheap enough, a good core to rebuild. This one has damage to basically everything aside from the external components. Anyone in the UK got one available they'd be willing to part with?
