✨Magical Forest Meeting✨ 🌙🐦‍⬛🐸🍄🐛🌲 I created this piece many moons ago for a blanket/throw competition. I never won but still decided to make a couple blankets for my loved ones.

A digital illustration in the style of old theatre stage designs and illustrations and artists of the past like Ivan Bilibin. I created this to be a children’s blanket design. The idea that these forest creatures gathering in the night tell stories to one another and parents/guardians along with their little ones could come up with these stories before bed time. What does the giant hollow oak tell of his day to the forest knight or does the giant frog croak to his friend the pompous crow? Who knows! You decide!

Galadriel invites the two hobbits, Frodo and Sam to look within her all seeing device. The great Mallon trees stretch up into the night sky, along with its old friends, pine and gnarled oak that grace the scene with their twisting and intertwining limbs. my favourite chapter in the fellowship! Hope you like it!

A pencil illustration depicting a chapter of Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. The chapter being ‘The Mirror of Galadriel’. The illustration shows the dream-like environment as Sam and Frodo decent down wooden carved stairwells following Galadriel into a glade of trimmed mosses and grass and roots. All the trees know not to grow here for here lies Galadriel’s mirror. In the distance we see elven roofs intertwining with natural structures. The moon glows above all and stars twinkle brighter here than anywhere else in middle earth.

I finished the final of this piece months ago. Alas I am yet to share it. Seems to be the case with most of my new work. I don’t really know why I am so reluctant to share work these days.

“The Mirror of Galadriel” A sketch for chapter 7 of the fellowship :) 

Getting carried away in the sketchbook as usual but I think with some adjusting and more space, I have a good idea of an illustration for one of my favourite moments from then books.

Sketchbook pencil drawing illustrating Chapter 7 of JRR Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Ring - “The Mirror of Galadriel”. From the bottom of the image is a shallow stairway path intertwined with tree roots where Frodo Baggins, under a tree-made archway is following Galadriel as she carries a vase of water up to her Mirror. Surrounding the place where her Mirror sits are trees of all kinds within Lothlorién looming and flowing together with elven-made architecture. Through the forest we can see tree-spiralling stairways and safe havens amongst the canopies. Above all the moon sits in a dark sky full and shining, alighting all below her.
