The foundational lie of Trumpism (and I’m using that word precisely to refer to the ideology of intellectual types who defend him), from day one, has been the claim that good character is a “luxury belief” and nothing more than cover for the wealthy to punish the poor. This belief is evil.

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

There's a kind of RPG product I look at and think "that's cool, I wish MCDM could make a book like that." But we can't because we are an expensive company and that product would never pay for itself. And then I wonder...do those products only exist because everyone working on them has a day job?

RIP Marcia Lucas, whose skill as a film editor and storyteller made a clunky independent film called STAR WARS greater than the sum of its parts. Rightly referred to as "Lucas's secret weapon," Marcia had an uncanny talent to see a film from the perspective of an audience--and won an Oscar for it.
