Cycling hack, here for the banter, and occasionally something survives in the garden.

Monet created 108 pastels, often gifted to friends or sold cheaply—revealing a softer, sketch-like side of the master. They remind us Monet wasn’t only a maker of grand masterpieces, but also an artist of unrehearsed creativity.

The Stones release “Honky Tonk Women” 57 years ago today — a country/western vibe inspired by the cowboys who worked at the Brazilian ranch where Jagger and Richards were vacationing. Richards said it was “one of those tracks that you knew was a #1 before you’d finished the mother—er.” 🔥

Pearl Jam’s “Alive” turns 35 today. “The original story being told in the song is that of a young man being made aware of some shocking truths,” said Vedder. But after years of audiences singing “I’m still alive .. it’s like they’re celebrating .. They changed the meaning .. They lifted the curse.”

This is bad. At least 9 county prosecutors in pro-Trump areas of Virginia have now openly declared that they won't enforce the assault weapons ban that the Dem state legislature recently passed. It's a MAGA nullification movement. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/2114...

Deep in Rural Virginia, a MAGA Pro-Gun Push Takes an Unnerving Turn

Governor Spanberger signed an assault weapons ban. Some county prosecutors in pro-Trump areas say they won’t enforce it. Is a new MAGA nullification movement brewing?

If local officials can simply decide which laws they will and won’t enforce based on politics, then what exactly is the point of passing laws in the first place? MAGA spent years demanding “law and order.” Apparently that only applies when they agree with the outcome.

Richard Gere on Trump: “We’re living in the darkest moment that I’ve experienced on this planet. Whoever thought America could turn like this? Whoever thought that a maniac like this would become president and dismantle all the good things?”

It mightn't look like much. But this little red dot is a supermassive black hole about 50 million times more massive than the Sun, its light dating to just 700 million years after the Big Bang—when the Universe was just 5% its current age. It is insane to me that we can see this far back.

A little red dot in the centre of the scene. Some (much) less distance galaxies, as small blotches of light, are also visible.

It's just getting started. I've predicted the restaurant industry is going to be in for a huge hit. Inflation hitting costs and consumers, tariffs, deportation of labor, and energy prices are going to impact the industry like never before. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/...

Some of Texas’s oldest barbecue joints close as meat prices skyrocket

Even the state’s most celebrated restaurants are struggling to remain open as costs climb, with no relief in sight.

This is Edward. He was given 6 months to live after being found as a stray. His family was determined to give him the best few months possible, so they introduced him to the ice cream truck. That was 27 months ago. 14/10 #SeniorPupSaturday (IG: magnificent_foster_dogs)
