Classrooms are not Social Faraday Cages for kids. Whatevers going on Out There gets brought In Here. Job insecurity, cost of living, addiction, DV, intergenerational trauma - that's all coming in with that child, and that's a lot of mental load before you even begin to start the educational stuff.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

Peters is a stain on this country. It should be an eternal embarrassment that a Deputy Prime Minister and FOREIGN AFFAIRS Minister utters, and is allowed to utter, disgusting slurs and racist comments with no consequence. FFS

The climate commission report out today shows emissions reductions almost coming to a standstill in 2024 as the Govt’s war on climate policy had its predicted impact. Dairy emissions are up. 2025 numbers will be worse. It is grossly immoral for NZ Govt to undermine global climate efforts.

No sooner had the Govt decimated environmental protections in the new Planning & Natural Environment Bills, they drop the bombshell that Manawhakahono ā rohe agreements will be scrapped too (literally minutes after select committee had agreed to uphold them...including national and act members) ☠️☠️

Bryce is right here, we have been massively let down in the West. "With more density come better services!" they said. The shape of the development is crappy, and the services have not arrived. We have Moa Point-sized overflows on the regular. And it's still an hour and a half into town by PT.

If I had any inkling of that, I would have opposed the intensification of Te Atatu Peninsula. We’ve been let down. Massively. So to see some people defend some largely modified weatherboard houses in an area that has had such huge infrastructure spend, is a slap in the face.

If only a dedicated group of scientists had warned us about the record heat, torrential flooding, continental scale wildfires, and apocalyptic orange skies

No, Luxon is not primarily the problem. The problem is record poverty, unemployment, homelessness, a health system on its knees, a plan to strip conservation lands, and zero effort towards climate action while we are being pummelled by a weather event every 8 days. Great angle, RNZ.

📢 Analysis: National appears to be baked in as a party of 30 or below with at least eight reputable polls this year, including the recent RNZ-Reid Research, having the party slump into the 20s.
