I think we need to accept more that indie animation is the result of a system bleeding out its talent and not trusting them with the resources to create things that audiences want, combined with insane levels of unbeforeseen unemployment.

I love to bake but find cooking really hard and my friends are like “oh but baking’s hard for me!” I don’t believe you!! Baking recipes tell you EXACTLY what to do down to the grain of flour! Meanwhile cooking recipes are like “cook til done. Flavor to taste” WHAT DO YOU MEEEEEEAN

Generative AI is not only fundamentally based on the rejection of consent, but also *standards*. Artists have been micromanaged and hounded over individual pixels, academics fighting to defend every minute detail of their thesis, etc, and then are tossed away in favor of the get shit wrong machine.
so many people want to work. so many want to use their skills to create something that has meaning and expresses an idea, that takes parts of them and others around them to make something that is greater than the individual components. but the people with all the money don't care. it's maddening.
