It’s my birth month, and I just have to say that getting older is 100/10. I had the best year of my life thus far. And I am so grateful for the joy, courage, curiosity, creativity, and consideration that I have been so lucky to witness in others and embody so often this year. just !!! ˗ˏˋ ughh ˎˊ˗

Photo of a sketchbook page showing ink drawings of three simple faces (just two big eyes, two dots for nostrils, and a mouth) aligned vertically; the first one wide-eyed and smiling, the second one smiling with eyes closed, and the third one eyes and mouth open with a curious expression (or at least that was what I intending 🙂).

Converted my old desk to a floor desk and it is changing my life! I can actually sit at it for some time everyday now. And I can stare at the birds :>

Photo of a thick wooden desk on metal legs, set at a low height suitable for sitting on the floor. In front of the desk is a gym mat covered with a thin, sewn blanket that is white with black swirls. In front of and beside the desk are two tall windows, one of which has a large, shrubby tree directly in view. On the desk are a laptop, a few journals, pens, and a drawing board propped up at an angle with various stationery supplies stacked on it.

For anyone curious about how I made this desk; the wooden top is from a local wood supply store. It’s butcher block, 1.5” thick, super sturdy, and is easy to clean (it is meant for kitchens). Most places will cut it for you. For the legs, I got steel furniture feet. There are a few different height options for these usually, mine are 14” (most steel options will also be rated 300-500 lbs and suitable for a desk!). My desk spans about 5’, with just corner supports, and does not bow. 10/10 would recommend.

Also highly recommend getting a 2” gym mat for sitting, if you are a person who struggles with sitting in “normal” positions/in chairs and finds floor cushions too unstable. 100/10

May 20 is World Bee Day. 🧪🐡🐝 There are ~20,000 different bee species in the world. Here in Ontario we have at least 400 native bees (none of which are the honeybees, which are from Europe). Bees are key to pollination. According to the UN nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend

As described this 16” x 20” linocut print combines gold text in a central circle reading “OUR FATE” arching upwards, “IS TIED” horizontally across the middle, “TO THAT OF THE INSECTS” arching downwards in two lines with insects. Clockwise from top: two leaf cutter bees (Megachile relativa and M. brevis), the Imperial moth (Eacles imperialis), the Virgin Tiger moth (Apantesis virgo), an Isabella’s Longwings butterfly (Nymphalidae Eueides isabella), a blue orchard mason bee (Osmia lignaria), a firefly (Photinus pyralis), the rusty patched bumblebee (Bombus affinis), a white underwing moth (Catocala relicta), an eastern carpenter bee (Xylocopa virginica), a sweat bee (Agapostemon sericeus), a hummingbird clearwing moth (Hermaris thysbe), the common eastern bumblebee (B. impatiens), a long-horned bee (Melissodes sp.), a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) and centre: eastern snail-shell nesting bee (O. conjuncta).
