This is why electing a Black president was such an inflection point. It was the exact opposite of post-racial politics: it was politics where status took on new salience because it became pellucid to cis, straight, white, male Christians that they wouldn't *always* be at the top of the hierarchy.

Take a look at this chart showing critical thinking skills across education levels. I was shocked that it was largely flat until Grad School! The average critical thinking score is about 3.5 on their 7-level scale.

Real old-school Dems - FDR, LBJ, Hubert - had progressive ideals and acted accordingly. If there has been a shift it reflects the Rightwing co-opting of media and their post Citizens big money floating the system. But as you suggest, Dem Traditionalists would naturally embrace their New Deal roots.

This issue of Dem Progressives vs. Dem Traditionalists should become a non-issue. Old-school Dems should move toward progressive ideals. It’s possible, and appropriate, to respect traditional Democratic values while accepting new progressive goals. Why must it be a battle?
