Asylum seekers choose the UK because they can see a future for themselves here. It's a prosperous country & there are jobs. Many speak more English than they do other languages, & some have relatives here. Plus, if their claim is not accepted in the EU, Brexit means they can use UK as another option
For the umpteenth time: Asylum seekers need to be on UK soil to claim it. They come for various reasons, none of which are benefits/hotel rooms. They aren't entitled to benefits without an NI number. Many don't have a passport.. lost, stolen, gone up in flames or never had one. Just read it!

Morning all. We live in the strangest of times, & it gets harder to believe in anything as the years go by. Staying home with a book & my cats today. You can't go wrong with that 🤗😺📚
We should all be pleased to see Burnham moving forward with the Starmer govt's plans for defence & local devolution. But plagiarism doesn't inspire confidence in an open, honest govt.
You can't form a credible govt purely on racism. Some voters are simply so blinkered by it they ignore everything else that makes Reform a disaster for UK politics.
During Starmer's brief but productive term the number of boat crossings has fallen, fewer hotels house asylum seekers & several people smugglers have been arrested. Deportation of illegal migrants is up. None of this appeals to me, but why do those who prioritise this seem oblivious to these facts?
So it's finally time to see a doc about the effect this weather is having on me. I feel unwell all the time & can't pretend otherwise. Anyone else at their wits end with this rainless heat?

The reason there are people still supporting Starmer is because we reflect the opinion of many in here, & are dismayed that the most effective govt we've had in years couldn't get behind its democratically elected PM. This Burnham coup was devious & undemocratic. Not Labour's finest moment.
We'll never know if Starmer would have won in 2029, I think he would for many reasons. Farage's bubble has, as predicted burst, Badenoch is in self destruct mode, the Lib Dems and Greens are stagnating and Starmer was delivering. All Burnham has to do is finish what Starmer started.
It is great for the country that Burnham plans to give more powers to Mayors. However, I take issue with the fact that Burnham is being hailed as a saviour for it, when Rachel Reeves didn't get an ounce of credit for announcing the same thing here. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Just returned from a rail based holiday in Germany (hubby likes trains), starting with Eurostar. What a nightmare! Trains cancelled or late, platform changes, missed connections, stinky loos. With system cock ups we had to catch 10 trains to get home!! Vorsprung Dutch technik - I don't think so!

So our new leader is off to govern from the north today. Not sure how this will benefit anyone really, but his regular transport to & from will no doubt come from the treasury 🤔
So all the competent cabinet members who achieved so much under Starmer are off, voluntarily or otherwise, & some Burnham cronies will no doubt take their places. I'm not confident any of this will be beneficial to the country tbh.
A lot can change quickly in.politicd. That's why it was shortsighted to start putting your elected PM only one year into his 5 year term of office. Sounds more self-servingly ridiculous & devious every time I say it.
Just watched part of a rather sickly interview with Starmer & Beth Rigby. She & her clickbait colleagues contributed massively to his having to resign, yet she sits there so pally pally, as if butter wouldn't melt.
Ok. So as of 20th July when Burnham gets the no 10 keys I will grit my teeth, clench my buttocks & watch & wait. Angry & disillusioned is putting it mildly, & I have no faith in the new leader nor a PLP which wants us to believe this coup is acceptable. But it is what it is. Madness 🤦🫣
