The FDA just approved daraxonrasib, a breakthrough drug for advanced pancreatic cancer that doubles survival time. This is huge: pancreatic cancer was once thought untreatable. The researchers received a standing ovation when they presented the trial results, unheard of at scientific conferences.

The university is a killing field. It is fully culpable. It must be said. Regardless of his deception. The neoliberal university made that happen. We don’t have to excuse his behavior to see how unevenly distributed resources and fucked star systems makes the university a killing machine.

This is the coverage of Arday **just in the Telegraph** in the UK. This is only the first four pages of results, just in one outlet.

B*njamin Ryan spent whole days posting about Arday endlessly on Twitter. He seems to have deleted/be deleting his posts now. But plenty of academics were very happy to continue in his comments and elsewhere. Hounding someone to death is unlikely to weigh much on the minds or hearts of these people.

I found that Cambridge quietly edited Jason Arday's Jesus College bio sometime between Jan 1 and Aug. 2. His title changed from "Professorial Fellow of Education" to "Fellow of Education," and an MA in Education Studies from Liverpool John Moores vanished from his list of https://x.com/benryanwriter//benryanwriter/status/2084345409812488494

He was hounded to death. Every press article was breathless In its glee and had the racist comment section below. It should never have been blown out of proportion like it has been. I hope everyone is pleased with themselves now, you would hope for introspection, but know it won’t even bother them

Academic folks: I've got two PhD students on the market this year, broadly within Global Asias and geography. (One on postwar environmental remediation in Vietnam, the other on infrastructure and aesthetics in Hong Kong.) Would love some leads on postdocs, esp. in this changing landscape. Thanks!!!

Tomorrow's combination of dangerous heat and unhealthy air is a serious threat to New Yorkers’ health. If you can, stay somewhere cool with air conditioning, limit time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and check on your neighbors — especially older New Yorkers and anyone with a health condition.

Really we all should root for a Knicks-Sixers playoff series every year because it’s one of the few matchups where the teams commute back and forth via chartered Amtrak trains instead of chartered flights. Tons of C02 emissions saved (Sixers boarding train pics from 2024)

A 76ers social media post labeled “Playoff season 🚂” with pictures of the Sixers boarding an Amtrak at Union Station

I'm so glad I left that shithole of an institution. But who's to say we won't get outmuscled everywhere? I can make as much space as I can in my classrooms - and I get really incredible and kind students in it for the love of the game - but money, like violence, screams over a Socratic seminar.

Absolutely fascinating how nearly every teacher and professor I know is now overhauling their pedagogy to put everything on old-fashioned paper, while (and in large part because) massive investments in AI like this roll in. I have no idea what will come of this. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/05/u...
