This is true though. It was the entire fight over 41.18 in Los Angeles. Yes, 41.18 doesnt solve homelessness. But subject to enforcement is does solve encampments in front of schools, which is a problem worth addressing on its own.

Had breakfast with a SD developer recently. Told me that across most of the city it’s no longer profitable to build. In Hillcrest, he just shelved a project and will leave it surface parking instead. Culprit? A lot we can’t control e.g. financing. But a lot we can, such as IZ, impact fees, etc.

Santa Monica has dramatically increased traffic enforcement this year. But it required a new Police Chief, a new City Manager, and a lot of pressure from City Council. Ultimately this comes down to elected officials. They have to put pressure. Unfortunately, most don’t care.

The building should be 50 ft. deep at most. You should not pack an FAR of 4.5 into five stories, this is terrible design and will lead to a backlash.

It’s insane how long it takes California to count ballots. The fraud allegations are idiotic but it is true that we’re slower to count than basically any other democracy in the world and that very much needs to fixed as an urgent priority.
Yup. LA County is a machine and the machine very much likes things just the way they are. You need to break the machine for anything to get meaningfully better.

Which would mean that LA residents would not have input on what gets built where. All that risk to kill one housing project!

Yes. Since having kids, I’ve become even more fervent in my views on street safety, sidewalks, etc. On the flip side, I’ve become far less patient with urban disorder. You feel vulnerable when you’re with young kids. I don’t want to be near people shouting, using drugs in public, etc.

By definition, they generate the most revenue where people break the law the most. Don’t speed and you won’t get a ticket! Pretty easy.

As written, this bill would effectively ban automated traffic enforcement, including red light and speed cameras. Not great!
