🚨Paper alert🚨 We propose a new way to analyse quantum simulator snapshots: 📏 distance learning 📏 It maps symmetry-broken and topological phases diagrams, probes criticality, universality, and many-body physics more generally 🧵 scirate.com/arxiv/2603.1...

🔬 A mysterious state of matter - the pseudogap - may hold the key to deciphering #superconductivity. Using a quantum simulator, a team led by #LMU physicist Immanuel Bloch, member of @mcqst.bsky.social shows how subtle magnetic patterns shape this enigmatic phase. www.lmu.de/en/newsroom/...
Hidden order in quantum chaos: the pseudogap
In a quantum simulator LMU and MPQ physicists reveal how subtle magnetic patterns shape one of the most puzzling states of matter - an important step towards understanding superconductivity.

⚛️ LMU physicist and newly appointed professor Annabelle Bohrdt brings order to quantum chaos. “We want to understand what many quantum particles do when they interact with each other” - a simple question behind one of the most complex problems in modern physics. #LMUMunich #Physics

Although 2025 was absolutely shocking in terms of the cruelty of powerful people, science can still be a refuge from it. A highlight for me was retreating to the mountains to teach at the Les Houches Summer School. Here are my lecture notes: arxiv.org/abs/2512.24390
Les Houches Lectures Notes on Tensor Networks
Tensor networks provide a powerful new framework for classifying and simulating correlated and topological phases of quantum matter. Their central premise is that strongly correlated matter can only b...

Glad to share the news of our newly funded Special Research Area (SFB) of the @fwf-at.bsky.social. QNNECT will be a collaborative project on neutral-atom hashtag#quantum systems with high connectivity — spanning Rydberg atoms, atoms in cavities, magnetic atoms, and polar molecules.
Great fellowship in an amazing place (in my unbiased view). If you want to do a PhD in quantum science, apply!
The International Max Planck Research School for Quantum Science and Technology (IMPRS-QST) and the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV) announced the open call for several fully funded PhD fellowships starting from Fall 2026. application.imprs-quantum.mpg.de/public/
One of the best places in the world to do a PhD in quantum - I did mine with this fellowship and it was awesome! Apart from great environment in Munich, lots of opportunities to mingle with other quantum centers in the world in summer schools, workshops etc.

I've complained a couple times about the lack of physics community here but not done much about it! New commitment: I'll post one interesting arXiv paper a day until things are better. (To the folks who follow me for non-physics science policy, don't worry; plenty more of that reporting to come.)
