I like to go fast. Moved to Boston in 1976 to attend MIT. Decided this was home. The Cradle of Liberty. Retired software engineer. Some of my software flew on the Space Shuttle. Motorcyclist, photographer, hacker, reader of all kinds of things.

There are some wonderful special effect moments, but they don’t involve the pods. A scene where Ray wanders through the remains of an airplane crash is somber and impressive, and there is an unforgettable image of a train, every coach on fire, roaring through a station.

War of the Worlds (1953) is one of the quintessential science fiction films from the Fifties. This film keeps the spirit of the book intact and makes the film an innovative, intelligent, and evocative film that tries to get one thinking about alien invaders and their intentions.

The War of the Worlds owes its greatest debt to producer George Pal. He knew how to put films like this together and was a driving force in the film's innovative and unique special effects. Who could forget those bright green Martian ships? It won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
