AMN Reviews: M.B. (Maurizio Bianchi) – M.U.U.N.H. 31.04.1982 (1982/2026; Eighth Tower Records)
The Maurizio Bianchi reissue project on Eighth Tower Records continues with this edition of M.U.U.N.H. 31.04.1982, remastered and restored by Raffaele Pezzella. Like many other Bianchi releases from the early 1980s, the post-industrial sounds on this album benefit from generous use of loops and echoes. Across two 31-minute tracks, Bianchi creates an abstract sound world in which machine noises pulse and oscillate.

An unearthly gorgeous performance here. I went to the funeral of a Thai composer in Bangkok last week. 100 of the composer’s students (!) played the Thai khim along with a recording of their teacher playing over the PA. The overtones were nuts. Video actually caught the sound pretty good.
Happy birthday also to Piero Umiliani!
Four Flies has unearthed a previously unreleased album from Italian library synth maestro Piero Umiliani. This was one of his last creations before he succumbed to illness, a set of scenic analog vignettes. #synthsky fourfliesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/fantasy
As I wrote a couple months ago, “Vertical London (New Year’s Day), is something of an inversion, tracing instead a vertical trajectory, moving 20 meters below sea level to 240 meters above on one of the coldest and shortest of days.”
#newmusicfriday Kate Carr, Vertical London A recommendation: Listen to these gorgeously captured and thoughtfully processed field recordings of London while doing some mundane task. A celestial travelogue of the spaces you've ignored or never known. katecarr.bandcamp.com/album/vertic...

Roberto Bolaño died 23 years ago today. I've been re-reading his poems, short stories, and novels this year, for whatever reason, and so have been thinking about his life and work quite a bit. I've yet to re-read the Last Interview, but here's a nice review. biblioklept.org/2009/12/21/r...
Roberto Bolaño: The Last Interview
I hate reviews that hem and haw too much over context, but I feel that a proper review of Roberto Bolaño: The Last Interview has to begin with some background information. But because I love you, g…

I sold laptops to them a few times. it's a kind of crap deal but they accrue enough "canadian work experience" after a few seasons to get provincial nominee PR for farm startups, or points PR if they have any degree or fluent french. so they know the score and I can buy $5 a head organic lettuce

anthéne 'Air Signs' – review by @acloserlisten.bsky.social "We are reminded that the life of a bird isn’t all peaceful gliding. Back from overhead flight paths and clifftop nests, we alight on the windowsill with a new perspective." acloserlisten.com/2026/07/11/a... @polarseas.bsky.social

Inspired by a bird landing on a city windowsill, Air Signs by anthéne looks to the skies for meaning or assurance. We don’t find a feathery, avian energy here. Instead, this is an airborne album of…

"If you happened to be gazing idly from a window of New York City’s J train crossing the East River on the Williamsburg Bridge, most days between the summer of 1959 and the autumn of 1961, you might have glimpsed a lone saxophonist huddled into a cranny of the gigantic steel skeleton …"
