I mean, a spam journal will publish literally anything if you give them money. I really don't think we need a research article to answer this question.

Leaving aside the Scottish question: I'd always assumed that most fans cheer for national clubs in int'l club competition -- I think most Germans cheer for Bayern, e.g., even if they hate them domestically. English folks don't root for other English club teams in the UCL?

Every Scot I know will be rooting for Argentina and you can't blame them. I would too if I was Scottish. It's like asking Liverpool fans to support Man United if they were in the Champions League final.

This isn't true, though. One of the ways folks end up w hallucinated citations are BibTeX files or docs with in-text citations autocompleted w LLMs. This, tbc, is also quite embarrassing - don't let LLMs touch your refs unless you can individually check - but it's different from not reading stuff
