Digital marketing type, European politics bore, language enthusiast, one of those gays you hear about, Eurovision nerd, that guy in the window seat. Next trip: 🇫🇮

I realise it wasn’t everyone and God my country has made some diabolical decision lately but my anger with the American People in the abstract for putting this guy back in charge AFTER SEEING WHAT HE WAS LIKE THE FIRST TIME is increasingly boiling.

Trump on U.S. weapons production: "We're building up ammunition very, very rapidly, by the way. We're keeping it for ourselves." "We're getting Patriots at record levels. We're getting Tomahawks at record levels. We're building very quickly."

It’s hard not to come to the conclusion that this has been rampant for years and they’ve only recently got the tech that can detect it (or started checking their logs properly).

This is a really good post especially because it doesn’t just fall into the ‘AI is bad‘ trap (while correctly hitting on a lot of the problems) but points out that a combo of AI, Reddit and Martin Lewis has basically broken demand management via friction.

New post: "Drowning in slop" Large parts of the state are being increasingly overwhelmed with complaints, appeals, objections.... written by AI. It's gumming up every process. Britain is particularly vulnerable. How bad has it got and what can we do about it? samf.substack.com/p/drowning-i...

This is the loss really and I don’t know how you get it back. Part of the joy of Radio 4 is (although in my case, increasingly ‘was’) hearing a documentary or show about something you’d never ever have clicked on. Will never forget one about barbed wire of all things I heard about 15 years ago.

When I used to travel a lot for work, Radio 4 was a delight, constantly throwing up fascinating things that I would never have thought to listen to otherwise. No algorithm would pick that up.

Maybe this won’t matter but the main takeaway I’ve had from Tory conference so far is the way it’s just a bunch of stuff with no through line. It’s the worst of @samfr.bsky.social’s random announcement generator concept, as well as fiscally incoherent.

I was once interviewing a grad for a job and they replied to a competency question talking about their time working on a reindeer farm at Christmas, and for some reason my brain didn't think "cute petting zoo" but instead blurted out "Did you kill them for their meat?"

1. Last week she was saying December. 2. For a woman who apparently genuinely believes she could be Prime Minister within the next year and has seen the consequences of trying to busk it play out before her since 2024, she’s not doing Much to prepare!

This was entirely legit, hence we went to extreme lengths to try and cover it up is an… interesting take.

BREAKING: #ManCity will attempt to prove their innocence by arguing that the government of Abu Dhabi part-funded sponsorship deals, rather than the club’s owners Abu Dhabi United Group - a private company owned by Sheikh Mansour - and as such, no rules were broken. [Mike Keegan, MailSport]

This is the thing that fascinates me about Kemi. She’s been visibly caught out on issues multiple times in ways that would cause me to change my name and move to Belize and it doesn’t seem to have impacted her at all

Tom Roberts@tpgroberts.bsky.social · 3w ago

This is why I find her fascinating, it's not just that she's wrong, it's that nothing can ever cause her to readjust her priors. She effectively has created her own reality to self soothe and continues to try and assert it over the real world.
