Ok, time to tell this story again. My mum was an A&E receptionist in the 70s/80s. It's a weekend night shift, guy has come in after a drunken scrap. Assigned an Asian doctor. Kicks off. Slurs, etc. Hears a very posh voice from the next cubicle. "I want him. The English one".

my final take on this story is this: back when my sister was an ER nurse in the rural Midwest USA, she sometimes had patients refuse to be treated by her because of race! They would get discharged immediately in most cases. so like that’s an option

right, ok, enough self-pity, I need to turn my shit pub around. it's in Stratford, it's got a (small) stage, there has to be someone who has something cool they want a space for queer-run, extremely diverse venue (we even let mumbling old white geezers in) what I'd call 'mostly accessible'

This is good and is basically proof of something I've been predicting for a while - the hollowing out of the Conservative Party as an institution, and as a result, the erosion of the advantages of incumbency.

The great Conservative debacle in Greater Manchester has attracted comment by @timbale.bsky.social , @dylandifford.bsky.social , @robertsaunders.bsky.social @stephenkb.bsky.social and others. Electoral Commission data shows the Party's organisational disintegration open.substack.com/pub/jegerton...
