Cooke, the 2024 Democratic nominee who lost to Republican U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden by less than 3 percentage points, defeated former Eau Claire City Council President Emily Berge.
I’ll go a step further: maybe the political science profession should rethink its obsession with the quant veneer of certainty in the first place since, you know, the last ~20 years worth of data science has been about as accurate as a theorist with vibes.* * I say that as a theorist with vibes.

Here’s an old slide on late volatility in presidential primary/caucus preferences. Common to have lots of movement in the last week, including diffs between final polls and results. Partly by real change, & partly b/c pollsters have to guesstimate who might turn out & weight their results by that.
Except for religious studies, the graduates of these "loan ineligible" majors are disproportionately women. Fans of this policy have probably never considered that social worker, cosmetician, teachers aide, etc might be low-paying jobs *because* women do them. newrepublic.com/post/213446/...
