The idea we need to get rid of entire fields of scholarship is just bizarre, reactionary stuff. It is John Roberts refusing to accept "sociological gobbledygook" to allow gerrymandering to continue, it is Pamela Paul calling to get rid of Soc on the WSJ opinion page.

There is one expensive and completely fake degree program on every campus and we all know what it is.
This is a really old argument on the right and it comes from not understanding the concepts or knowing your audience doesn't. It is 100% disingenuous.

Nothing monstrous or cynical about it. Listen, I feel no need to praise S&S. I’d still call this a welcome show of publisher support—a refusal to cave to racists who undermined him and his work and his life at every turn. At the very least, let his book have its day.
