it's hard to explain how bloodthirsty some people on here are to not read anything. it's as embarrassing as it is disturbing. i think an arm of the "demand avoidance" behavior on here in general (telling literally everyone that anything they do or enjoy is bad, impossible for YOU, bigoted somehow)

There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

yes i research as my job and i use @kagi.com and it works exactly as i want almost 100% of the time. i would never use google scholar though. i occasionally use google books when i want to search through a text if they have it. i'm a heavy search user and i have never wanted to search using an LLM.

over the weekend, stepdad greg and i watched "the assessment" (2024) and it feels in conversation with this book. about what your society may choose to shed in order to have the impression of safety.

i just finished "ex partum" by emma burnett, a short novel about a real-feeling dystopian future. i liked the book a lot, and burnett especially does a good job using language to alienate the idea of food itself -- taboos around chewing, teeth, unfamiliar smells, feelings in the body

Hank Green should not use LLMs in his work. Working scientists have specific use cases for LLMs, but science communicators like Hank and I do not. They add more vulnerability than value in our field. I laid out some history and background to walk you through the reasons why.

I’ve been writing a counter narrative of shutdowns that has me revisiting media from that time. And let me tell you, the only other option was everybody die. So yeah.
