Let me be blunt: the way that the UK's media has approached this year's Holyrood election, particularly vis a vis commissioning MRPs, has been the most staggeringly and frankly offensively useless attitude that I have seen in any of the four Holyrood elections I've been able to vote in. Good gods.

I know Saturday 14 March is a busy day for many, but here's an event at Oran Mor in Glasgow that I hope will catch your imagination. Convention-style meeting during the day and some excellent music and poetry in the evening - tickets available for either or both. www.thenational.scot/news/2581251...

In case you were still in any doubt, here’s Keir Starmer confirming precisely what he thinks of Scotland, folks who live in Scotland, Scottish culture and Rabbie Burns. Oddly, Tunnock’s and Barr’s used to be Tory supporters. I wonder what’s changed… (Nothing, I’d suggest) #IndependenceNow

This is the leadership countries should expect - one which stands up for all the people who make up that nation. A voice which speaks up for all of Scotland's people is needed, now more than ever. As Westminster and England lurch to the Far Right, It is clear #Scotland is on a different path.

Throwing a brick through the window of a hotel housing asylum seekers in Falkirk is absolutely despicable. People who fled war and persecution deserve to live in safety, not fear. Words have consequences - it’s time for politicians who spread hate to reflect on that.

When I wrote this in 2019 some accused me of exaggerating the connection between the intellectual bigotry/racism of the Spectator and Telegraph (as exemplified by Scruton and Murray) and BNP/street-level thuggery. If anything I was too cautious.. www.politics.co.uk/comment-anal...

Scruton is part of an intellectual culture giving respectability to racism

Howls of outrage over philosopher Sir Roger Scruton's loss of a government job ignore the reality of his output.

Repeat after me: 40% of the men arrested for rioting against asylum seekers in Southport had previously been reported to the police for domestic violence. Why would anyone want to associate themselves with that lot? www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Two in five arrested for last summer’s UK riots had been reported for domestic abuse

Police data indicates overlaps between public violent disorder and domestic violence and abuse
