Police officers have repeatedly used Flock's surveillance network to access data about people they know and track their whereabouts. This is indefensible, warrantless surveillance — help put a stop to it at aclu.org/gtfo_

Smoke has arrived in Seattle, but the other side of the Cascades is absolutely brutal. Wenatchee and other towns (e.g., Plain, Entiat) have been over 1,000 AQI today. Please use air purifiers, N95 masks, and avoid being outdoors if you’re able - there is no safe level of wildfire smoke exposure.

A first year above 2C in the mid-2030s now looks plausible. 0.5C was first passed in 1980, 1.0C in 2010 and 1.5C in 2024. The 15-year trend runs at 0.42C per decade. The 2026 and 2027 points for the current El Nino are estimates. We're not remotely ready!

This string helped me articulate feelings I haven’t yet been able to turn into words. I’ve often been an early adopter of tech. But not AI. The narrative around it sets my teeth on edge. I was starting to chalk up the discordance I feel about its use to getting older. That I was missing something.
Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/
The world is full of people who insist "AI is changing everything" but who - when pressed - have to admit that what they mean is that they're pretty sure that AI *will* change everything. Eventually. After we allow it to consume all the planet's energy, carbon, water and financial resources. 8/

The devil is in the details and this is complex. At my day job, we are currently analyzing this. One major problem: these "previously authorized" (by the FCC) models of inverters mostly aren't inverters. They are inverter components. Not clear how existing inverter models will be treated.
Even though I buy ‘domestic content’ inverters to get the project wide 10% tax credit, this is going to affect me. From Roth:

This is a really good time to buy all the rare books that you were ever interested in, and build a personal library that can be shared with others and later donated a secure location. I've already started. Icelandic sagas, 19th & 20th century political economy, and other topics.
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
