Just enjoyed the new katsu chicken bake from Greggs, but I’m sure no one in the UK seems to realise that “katsu” is not the name for Japanese curry sauce, but for the breaded pork/chicken cutlet that often accompanies it. I live in a country of Philistines.

I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.

Sumo's infusion of popular western rikishi in the last couple years is really interesting to study against the backdrop of Japan's current rise in anti-foreigner sentiment. Especially in a "national sport" where fans and critics have often Felt a Certain Way about the roles foreigners occupy.
