Scot/Canadian, pop-culture bobbins, etc, etc. For some reason running a Crowded House song bracket https://challonge.com/3utr3rxn

Happy Revolver day! Here’s that source photos image that ended up all over the web uncredited. It was researched by Beatles fan (and great help for my Sgt Pepper source photos project) Sergey Obod. Yay, Sergey!

The Best Crowded House Song Round 1 continues with Matches 3 & 4. Match #3 32. Love You 'til the Day I Die - from the debut album that just turned... (checks notes) 40?? That can't be right?... vs. 97. Thirsty - from their latest album, Gravity Stairs. vote forms.gle/4yMyFEqi1RLB...

In what should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, "Don't Dream It's Over" obliterates "This is Massive" with 100% of the vote, while "Either Side of the World" takes out "Kill Eye". So. That's my bracket shafted already... Next rounds posting soon!

The Best Crowded House Song round 1 - match 1. 1. "Don't Dream it's Over" - often hailed as one of the best songs ever written vs 128. "This Is Massive" - an obscure Split Enz hangover written by the drummer. Vote here forms.gle/dU1s9DK6wPrk...

I haven't made a decision on today's matchup, but it's nice to see @kayhanley.bsky.social is now credited for her vocals on Spotify? (Now the fractions-of-a-cent will really be rolling in! 🤪) Did this contest help start that conversation??

The credits to a song on the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack, with Kay Hanley now credited as the vocalist on the track.

The Best Album of 2001 Round 2 Match #96 #22 System of a Down, TOXICITY VS. #43 Josie and the Pussycats, JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS: MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE Go here to vote: forms.gle/md3FhKwoMKsX...

First pic: A photo of the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, but the letters have been replaced so it says SYSTEM OF A DOWN. Second pic: The cast of the film JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS, posing for the camera. On the far left is a white woman with long blond hair holding drumsticks. The middle woman has a guitar and makes a kind of "you wanna try me?" gesture with a confident smirk on her face. On the right is a Black woman holding a bass guitar in front of her body and making a cat claws gesture with a scowl. They all wear little cat ears on their heads.

I started getting Daredevil with the crossover issue from this event - I was VERY confused, but Romita Jr drew a great hellscape.

#EventsDearBoy 7. INFERNO (1988, Marvel) Hell hath no fury like a creator (of strong women characters) scorned. Ordered to kill off his supporting character Madelyne Pryor, Chris Claremont did so in the most rageful way possible and turned her into a fan icon

I don't think most Americans have internalized yet how permanent the relational damage is. No, Canada can't trade haymakers with the Trump administration (or any US administration) in a trade war. But can we bleed a few key sectors out, slowly but relentlessly? We might have to try.

Alberta hasn't banned US alcohol imports. People here aren't buying it anyways. The debate over whether provincial governments should be banning it misses the actual point, which is that Canadians don't want to buy it in the first place. #cdnpoli

I love the Sound of Trees and do consider it to be an alternative Split Enz album. The title is from Lord of the Rings when Gollum says “And we forgot the taste of bread, the sound of trees, the softness of the wind.” In fact bassist Nigel use to have a cat named Gollum.

I had just started to learn guitar when I saw this Crowded House music video. I recorded it from the Chart Show, sat in front of the TV, and played it again and again while I figured out the chords. I still play it (tho I always forget what the 2nd half of the middle 8 does) youtu.be/AQOlwMKpmvQ?...

reposting bc typo in original. fellow music heads: what was the first song you were truly obsessed with? my parents had to take the record for this one away from me because i was playing it over and over:

I'd been sitting this one out 'cos of... vibes? Jimmy Eat World's name instantly puts me off, and GbV... I dunno? But this morning I gave in and actually listened to them! That Jimmy album is a lot of fun, while GbV is a limp version of a lots of other things that annoy me. Jimmy Eat World ✅

First pic: Seven bowling trophies, of varying size, on top of an old cigarette dispensing machine, like you might have found in the 50s or 60s. All that's visible of the machien are a row of buttons along the bottom of the image, with a picture of a cigarette brand on each button. Behind the trophies is a blue wall. Second pic: A photograph of four different planes, the first pointed straight at the camera, then the others pointed at an angle away from the camera until the fourth plane is 90 degrees pointing to the right. The first plane appears to be a passenger jet, the second one looks like a military fighter, and I believe the last two are commuter planes.
